Instructors

We have around 25 dedicated and highly-qualified Friskis instructors in Brussels. What they all have in common is that they enjoy being in the middle of a group of participants to convey the message of joyful training, fun and pleasure while getting fit.

How are instructors trained?

Friskis Brussels regularly organises instructor tests to select potential instructors.  The successful candidates then follow a high quality instructor’s education programme in Sweden.

The first “step” of their training is theoretical, focusing on anatomy, physiology, leadership as well as the Friskis&Svettis concept and values. The second “step” is more practical. They learn how to put together a class, how to use the music and rhythms in indoor classes and how to use different movements for outdoor classes. Both “steps” include 1-2 training classes per day. The whole process, from selection test to becoming an instructor takes eight to ten months.

After these two steps, the future instructor has to put together a one-hour class, with his/her own music and movements. He/she has to present his/her class to a certified graduator who takes the final decision if the person is qualified to become an instructor. Every third semester, each instructor passes a so-called “quality control” where the instructor receives feedback on his/her class from an experienced and specially- trained follow-up coach, in order to keep up to the set standards.

More about me

Anne Dauvrin

Nordic Walking

More about me

Anne, our “Bruxelloise”, joined F&S to share with others one or more of her passions, the discovery of the forest through the seasons and its trails, Nordic walking practiced as a sport. This makes it possible to take from time to time challenges such as taking part in the 20km of Brussels, in “La Bruxelloise”, or guiding foreign F&S members in Brussels. At F&S, things are not always easy … some instructions seem restrictive and not easy to understand. But beyond these few difficulties, even if the NW is a little bit apart, it is always very nice to meet others and to participate in one or the other event. She stopped counting how long she has been involved in F&S because she loves what she does. Her life motto is specifically “For a valiant heart nothing is impossible, and then impossible is not a French word”.

Smiling is in fact her life motto and that is exactly what she does by being a part of and by helping to build an organisation which reaches more and more people thanks to its fantastic workouts and to its unique atmosphere based on the recipe of engaging volunteers and participants from all corners of the world.

She found that one can stay in shape almost without paying attention with F&S. Having so much fun that you can almost miss the fact that you’re covered in sweat amongst an international community of volunteers and members is very hard to find. Coincidently she believes that it is never too late to try new things!
