Laura is a winner… literally! She participated in our F&S photo contest for the Brussels 20km and won a free Friskis membership! If you want to be a winner like her, don’t forget to participate in our photo challenge – #lovefs for your chance to win a free membership.
How do you participate? It’s easy:
- take a photo of you and your friends participating in a Friskis summer session.
- post the photos on the F&S Brussels Facebook page with the hashtag #lovefs.
Laura was kind enough to take a moment out of her busy schedule to give us her impressions of Friskis and why she wanted to be a part of it. Read on and you may discover the secret of her success:
Friskis&Svettis: What is your name and where are you from?
Laura: My name is Laura and I’m half Italian, half Dutch and I just moved to Brussels two months ago.
F&S: How did you discover F&S?
L: Well to be honest it was quite simple. I did a google search to see if there were any sports clubs that offer indoor and outdoor activities. and it came up in the first two pages so I clicked on F&S, checked the timetable and that’s when I joined the first session a month ago.
F&S: What brought you to F&S?
L: Because I like to keep a healthy lifestyle, between working in the office 8 hours a day and my way of winding down in the evening is to keep physically fit, so I like to go running and doing physical exercise. And it’s something I’ve been doing all my life ever since I was a student… just to exercise quite a bit.
F&S: Why do you think your photo got so many likes?
L: I’m not sure. I think I got a combination of group pictures, of people stretching and some of the runners during the race. So I tried to keep people at the center of the picture and to show the event and the enthusiasm and team spirit.
F&S: What do you think you will enjoy most about being a member?
L: I think it’s meeting similar minded people, in terms of people willing to make friends and exercise at the same time. It’s a great community, you feel part of a club and you can participate in any of the sports events whether indoor or outdoor.
Oh and keeping motivated cause it’s not the same as going to the gym. You have the loud music and people doing the same thing around you. You can make it to the end very easily cause of this motivation and team spirit.
F&S: What Friskis sports/activities do you enjoy the most?
L: I quite like the aerobics classes. I tried Pilates but I’m more interested in the Cardio type of classes with more movement and with more of a beat to it and jumping. So not so much dance and zumba but more like the exercises like the Jympa classes which I had heard of when I spent a year in Sweden.
F&S: Do you have a particular session or instructor you’re looking forward to following?
L: When I went for my first class I tried the Intensive session and I felt it was my level and I loved it.
F&S: What do you think distinguishes Friskis from other sports/fitness clubs?
L: I think cause it’s completely run by volunteers. And people do it for their passion of teaching others and sharing this motivation to train altogether. So it’s entirely for the fact that’s it’s people who aren’t doing it for money but simply sharing the emotion of group classes
F&S: Would you recommend Friskis to your friends and colleagues?
L: Absolutely, if any of my colleagues would ask me “what I do with my free time?”, then I would definitely recommend Friskis cause there’s plenty of activities in different parts of Brussels with a lot of different levels from Basic to Advanced so there’s a class for everyone.
F&S: Will you be taking advantage of our free summer sessions?
L: Yes, definitely! So far I’ve been to every single one, so long as it doesn’t rain I think it’s a great way to be outdoors, meet people and keep fit generally so I think it’s great.
