Friskis Value 5: Exercise is unremarkable

Published on May 28, 2019

As you know, Friskis&Svettis is a sports organization entirely run by volunteers. But it’s more than that. Its members, instructors included, volunteer their time, energy and skills because they believe in it and what it represents.

Did you know that, when they graduate, each Friskis instructor is given a book listing the 12 Friskis values? These values encapsulate all the lessons and teachings that the instructors learn during their months of training and get to the heart of what exercising with Friskis is about.

To that end we have asked our volunteers (instructor, host, board members, etc.) to share their favorite Friskis values and to describe what it means to them how it helps them in their friskis role. It represents both an illustration of what we believe in as an organisation as well as to better show just how these people turn a sports experience into a Friskis experience.

We are Friskis. These are our values.

Olivier is well known for being one of our most joyful and fun hosts. It’s seriously impossible not to smile when he’s around. He thought long and hard before he picked what his favorite Friskis value was: EXERCISE IS UNREMARKABLE:

“Exercise, at least the way that I practise it, is about giving more freedom to the body by expanding its internal abilities, especially in this age where most of us usually spend more than half the day sitting down. Exercising also has a great and proven effect on the mind and the neuronal connections.”

He also added: “I always feel sad when I hear people suffering from back pain or see someone  struggling to climb stairs due to stiffness in their legs and hip flexors.
Yoga is a truly inspiring activity and has been literally helping people for thousands of years and Flex is a great derivative focusing more solely on stretching dynamically our body.
It gives our limbs and body extended reach and preserves them from rapid ageing which might not be as ‘remarkable’ as a perfect 6 pack ab but is so invaluable that I’m ready to Flex for another 50 years :)”

Now that you’ve heard his thoughts, let’s take a moment to better know our host. Our fun loving Belgian Olivier chose to volunteer for F&S to answer a call and to show his love for the organisation. He enjoys the instructor’s energy, the diversity and the affordability of it, hence why he joined as a host in September 2016. So it comes as no surprise when he tells us that his life motto is “Oppa Gangnam style”! 🙂

You can enjoy the pleasure of his company every Tuesday at the Flex 45′ session with Lene and every Wednesday at the Flex/Yoga sessions at Hiel.
